Dealing with Rejection!

Life is tough.
Sometimes you don't get your dream job,
that guy just isn't interested in you,
the college you had your heart set on declined your application.

How do we deal with the reality of rejection?

Now I have plenty of experience when it comes to rejection.

I graduated with my Bachelors in 2017 and still have no luck getting an entry-level job in the field I'm pursing. It's so hard working in a part or full-time job that you have absolutely no passion for, knowing that you want to do so much more with your life.

It takes so much effort to essentially ~fake it till you make it~ until you finally receive a job offer you've been waiting for.

The most important thing to remember when you get rejected from a job is don't take it personal. There are so many reasons why they could have passed on your application. Maybe there was a candidate with more experience than you (usually always the case duh), it wasn't the right company for you, or after reconsideration, they decided to close this position.

Since January 2019, I've been on 3 extensive interview processes- I'm talking about a phone interview, an assessment and 2-3 in-person interviews. And guess what? I didn't land any of them.

Now my self-confidence has definitely taken a blow but I can't give up. I know more than anything I want to reach the next step in my career because I need to level up. At 24 years old, I'm working towards building my career and ultimately preparing for a future family with my boyfriend.

------

When it comes to being rejected by your crush, it might be a little more disheartening. If you've ever heard the words "I'm not interested in you", then I'm so sorry. It can be a verbal straightforward convo, the subtle friend-zone cues or you know, he can ask your friend for her number. 🤷

Either way, it freaking sucks. It leads you down the rabbithole of several depressing thoughts:

Am I not good enough?
Am I not pretty enough?
Am I boring?
Why would you choose my friend over me?

It's tough to pull yourself out of that dark place, especially when it's someone you thought you had a real connection with. Remember there are billions of people in this world, I guarantee you can find someone that's meant for you; whether that be tomorrow, next week or next year.

If you feel like you can't meet someone IRL then put your pride aside and try online dating.
My friends will literally name a new dating app each week: Hinge, Bumble, Tinder, Okcupid, Hily, Badoo.

You get my point right? If you want yourself a better man or woman, go get 'em hunny.

Finding a job after graduating is honestly the hardest thing ever especially in New York. The competition in New York is too high because all new recent wants to come to New York. That’s why I tell ALL these youngins that are still in college to take as much INTERNSHIPS as they because it’ll help them build their resume. Hang in there Nia because there are TONS of companies that have jobs openings literally EVERYDAY.

Knowing what you need to do to set yourself apart from other candidates during job interviews can be tough. Often, it’s not enough to demonstrate your passion about the opportunity since everyone else will be doing the same thing. There are other ways to ensure you’re highlighting yourself as the top choice for the job at hand beyond the obvious, though. Here are some of our top tips: how to stand out in an interview.

Don’t be afraid to fight for what you want. Potential employers are able to spot persistence from a mile away. The ability to remain steadfast when faced with adversity is a sign of a great employee. Don’t hesitate to send an email response, or even a text message, to ask why you were rejected and if there are other more appropriate jobs within the company that you can apply to instead.
